Road Rewilding for Sky Island Alliance

Southwestern conservation organization, Sky Island Alliance, is overseeing a survey of decommissioned forest roads in the Huachuca Mountains. Volunteers like me and my compatriots use an app called Field Maps to document the conditions of unpaved roads the Forest Service has deemed no longer in use. In doing so, we gather information about the road conditions to help make decisions about where to prioritize work and where the desert has already done most of the work for us. Returning decommissioned forest roads cuts down on erosion and damaging use of backcountry areas.

SIA invited me to write a guest blog post on my experiences with the survey, and so I did. You can read it here.
